PlexGlobe comes with world clock that allows you to view current time for any part of the world. User can select location either by geography or by time zone. User can set any number of cities or time zones for which PlexGlobe will show current time.
PlexGlobe supports a number of calendars such as Gregorian, Chinese, Japanese, Hebrew, Islamic and Buddhist. User can view multiple calendars at the same time. These calendars also show local holidays.
It allows users to time user’s events.
Date calculator provides a number of calendar and date conversion facilities such as conversion between Gregorian and Julian dates. It allows conversion of dates between Gregorian, Islamic, Hebrew, Chinese, Japanese and Buddhist calendars. It allows date and time calculation by adding or subtracting days, weeks, months and years. In addition it calculates time differences between time zones.
This allows user to convert length, area, volume, mass and temperature from imperial and metric units.
PlexGlobe allows users to connect to external NTP servers and retrieves correct time. User can then update local system time if needed.

PlexGlobe software is written purely in Java and it can be run on any platform where Java virtual machine is available. It requires: Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version of 1.3 or above. There are two ways to run PlexGlobe: first by directly invoking Java Runtime command and second using Java Web Start. The latter method is preferred because it allows seamless installation and automatic updates to the program for future enhancements and bug fixes. Unfortunately, Java Web Start is only available on Windows, Solaris and Linux platform at this time.

PlexGlobe requires about 25MB disk space to install.
PlexGlobe software is available from following URL:

In order to install via Java Web Start, agree to the license agreement and select Java Web Start from the options. If you have installed Java Web Start, clicking the option will start Java Web Start. Java Web Start will then download the software and install it on you r local machine.
The first time you will execute application you will see setup screen that will ask you to agree to the license agreement and prompt you for your information. In order to use the application, you will have to restart PlexGlobe by clicking on Java Web Start option. You will be prompted to add PlexGlobe as shortcut to your desktop. If you choose to agree, you will not have to go above URL for starting the application.
If you do not have access to Java Web Start, you will need to select jar file from the option. After downloading jar file, type
java -jar setup.jar
You will then a setup screen that will follow you through installation steps. After successful installing,
cd {INSTALLATION DIR}/lib and type
java –jar StartPlexglobe.jar
After you have successfully installed and launched PlexGlobe, you will be asked to select default location and default time zone. Following is brief overview of interface for PlexGlobe:
Following figure shows main view of PlexGlobe interface. The top section consists of drop-down menu, underneath those are tool bar for commonly used items. The desktop shows table of world time for favorite locations selected by user. PlexGlobe comes with couple of predefined locations and user can add or remove locations from that list.

PlexGlobe allows user to view current time for any part of the world. PlexGlobe keeps list of favorite locations for which current time is displayed. The main desktop shows current time for those locations. One of those favorite locations is default location, which is highlighted, in red color on the world clock table (See Figure 1). User can change favorite locations by selecting ToolsàFavorite Locations.
Figure 2 shows panel for favorite locations. User can view, add, remove or edit any of those locations. PlexGlobe comes with database for most of the major cities in the world. In addition, it allows user to add user-defined location. Each location stores information about city, state, latitude/longitude coordinates, time zone, etc.

In order select new location, click adds it will start a wizard. User will first select country as shown in figure 3.

User will then select time zone as shown in figure 4.

User will then select city as shown in figure 5.

In order select default location, click ToolsàDefault Location, it will display list of favorite locations. User can make any of those locations as default location or choose new location by clicking “Select New Location.” It will display wizard as seen previously.

In order to create a new appointment, select “Add.” User can create one-time or recurring appointments or events. PlexGlobe allows users to receive notification via audio, popup window or emails.

Click ToolsàPreferences to edit preferences such as time/date format, etc.

PlexGlobe allows Muslim users to locate direction of Kaaba from any city of the world. It determines both North and Magnetic direction:

Users can also configure PlexGlobe to display prayer timings for default location. Click AstronomyàMuslimsàConfigure Salaat and choose any of the supported jurisdictions for calculating prayer times.
